LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A gunman in a speeding car opened fire on a motorcade carrying "gangsta" rapper Snoop Dogg and his bodyguards, slightly injuring one person and leaving police on Friday with few clues as to who might be shooting at one of rap's biggest stars.
The sometimes controversial 31-year-old rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was questioned by Los Angeles police detectives after the Thursday night shooting, an LAPD (news - web sites) spokesman said, but was unable to shed much light on the incident.
"We talked to him last night and he was very cooperative," Sgt. John Pasquariello said. "He just doesn't know a lot."

Bring The Noise
The newest digital players can even write their own songs So you wanna be a rock-'n'-roll star? Well, listen now: skip the electric guitar, get yourself a MadPlayer — a handheld device developed in France for London-based MadWaves. It's a one-stop musical shop — an MP3 player for grabbing music from the Internet, an FM tuner, and a karaoke machine that allows you to download backing music, view the lyrics and sing. But its chief function is as an interactive music composer that creates original songs on the fly. Pick one of 21 styles (like hip-hop or house music) and push a button. Out pops a fully composed song, with an introduction, ending, chord progression, melody and rhythm. (Chart success and groupies not included.) Music executives think it has great potential for getting tech-addicted kids to interact with music.

Interview #2 -----I listened to the entire "The Overnightscape" show. You had some audio problems that assulted my ears. What was that all about?
Things got too loud at times, and something was "clipping" the audio (mixer/sound card/recording software). It sounded a lot worse in the headphones. Hopefully I have it under control now.
-----What computer software do you use to compress an hour of audio into a 20meg file? Why do you offer "The Overnightscape" as a MP3 file and not a WMA file?
VHS beat Beta. PC beat Mac. And MP3 beat all the other audio formats. It's the best and most compatible standard. (But if it starts to turn"evil", there's always Ogg Vorbis...)
Do you know of any advantages to using WMA? ( Read more... )

A product every parent should look at, March 2, 2003
Amazon Reviewer: Nelson Hynds from Lansing, MI I think that it is a rare occurance when a manufacturer puts out an entertainment product that actually provides proactive stimulation and creative fun. MadPayer is just that, and more. I bought two for my children, one 9 and the other 13, because I hoped that it would get them away from playing mindless video games. This little device did that and much more. My boys now spend their free time making music and entertaining their friends as ossposed to being zombied out on playststion ( we just put our playststion up for sale on ebay). This is from one happy parent and two very happy boys. Thank you to the company that makes this product. (5 Stars) --------------------------

MadWaves is based in Nice, France.
PARIS, France (Reuters) -- U.S. citizens have turned on French fries and toast to vent their frustration at France's anti-war stance on Iraq. Now the French have joined in the food war -- with pretzels.
A French Web site is urging people to send pretzels to U.S. President, who fainted and fell off a sofa in January 2002 after gagging on the salty snack.
The Web site, http://www.bretzelforbush.com, says the pretzels will be stored at a secret location before being sent to the White House in a historic mass action.
The retaliation follows moves by some in the United States to change the names of French fries and French toast to Freedom fries and Freedom toast.
The pretzels are on sale for seven euros ($7.56) each, with one euro going to a children's charity. So far some 250 euros have been raised for the charity. (more)
